The little village of Wychel lies at the foot of the “Burg”, the mighty cliff that marks the end of the “Engelhörner” mountain chain. The area is flat with few buildings. The village can easily be reached with a leisurely stroll over the Wychelstrasse. For those not shy of the steep climb, then the “Wanderweg” right next to the house will definitely be of interest (direction-Geissholz). The tiny farm lies a bit off the “Postautostrasse” on the way to Rosenlaui, beautifully set by the “Kirchet” natural dam. A forest trail leads from here to the “Zwirgi” Gasthof/ Inn located near the Reichenbachfall. Various ways of returning include the Postauto, or a combination with a trip on the (over 100 year old) nostalgic cable railway.

And of course a visit to the nearby “Aare” gorge is always recommended, a natural wonder that one can walk through along a special foot bridge. The Aare river has eroded its way through these cliffs over thousands of years creating a 1400 metre long, and (in some places) 180 metre deep gorge.

More time is needed for a hike into the lost “Urbachtal”, even though it is only around 4km’s to the higher point where the valley begins. Once you arrive you loose all sense of time. An untouched landscape and sharp contrasts leave strong impressions. It is here that the “Urbachsengelhorn” (with its 1900 metre high east wall) runs straight down to the bottom of the valley with a horizontal distance of approximately 1250 metres. This still rather unknown wall is in actual fact higher than the “Eiger-Nordwand”.
