From Basel you reach Meiringen best via Bern. See also the timetable from Zürich.Thenarrow-tracked MIB runs very regularly between Meiringen and Innertkirchen.

The train stops at both the East and West entrances to the Aare Gorge enabling passengers a quick and comfortable round-trip hike through the area. The MIB is also part of the “free ski-bus” system in winter (with courtesy of the Meiringen-Hasliberg mountain railways).

The Zentralbahn brings passengers from Meiringen to Brienz and Interlaken or over the Brünig pass to Lucerne.

The Meiringen railway station is the starting place of all "Postautos". See the time table for Innertkirchen-Grmsel or Gadmen-Susten. In summer there are even special trips taking you over the Susten and Grimsel passes but also the Furka, Oberalp and Gothard. Take a closer look at these "Extrafahrten"!

All connections are to bee find in the official Swiss timetable. See "M" and go for "Meiringen".

Reichenbachfall railway – nostalgic cable railway, (operating since1899)

One of the cable-car conductors dresses-up like Sherlock Holmes during the summer months reminding us all just how closely the world famous figure is actually associated with Reichenbach.

Next to the summit station is the 120m high Reichenbach waterfall, a phenomenal natural wonder.

An ideal starting point for hikes and trekking tours into the Reichenbach valley with marked, accessible trails from the summit station.

The Meiringen-Hasliberg Mountain Railways. They transport you to the peaceful pre-alp landscape where you have a view of the mountains and valleys.

The Gelmer funicular, (with a gradient of 106%) is the steepest of its kind in the world today and leads you to the Gelmersee/ lake at 1850 metres above sea level.

The Trift aerial cable car takes an adventurous route through the Trift gorge to the glacier valley of the same name. The summit station is the starting point for high-alpine mountaineering leading to the spectacular crossing of the Trift rope bridge (1.5 hours). With a length of 110metres it is the longest in Europe. Both the SAC huts (Trift & Windegg) are worth visiting and are ideal starting points for high-alpine tours.

Ride the Tälli funicular directly to the base of the Gadmen cliffs. From here one can take on the Tälli climbing route, diverse hikes or simply relax afterwards in the Tälli alpine hut.

Travel by railway straight to the ski tour area. The “Werksbahn” operates between Handeck and Gerstenegg for ski tour enthusiasts whilst the Grimselstrasse is closed during winter.

In case the Guttanen-Handeck road is required to be used (during the winter period when it is closed), a special permit has to be acquired by calling 033-982 29 11. As soon as the Grimselstrasse is opened again right through to Gerstenegg, the cable car system is then shut down.
